The end of first semester is almost here. The kids got to present their 20 hour project and talk about the goals they picked. The presentations went on this week and I really enjoyed seeing their goals and what they aimed to do in 20 hours. We finished the presentations and started on Scratch. Scratch is a program with coding where you can design games with characters and backdrops. They used scripts to move the characters up, down, right, and left. They can even give the characters script to talk to other character. They can design their own backdrop if they'd like.

We had a Google Sheets Budget Competition this week and let me tell you that I was so proud of every student in our class. Google sheets can look a little intimidating for many reasons. When you first open the program you see unending rows and columns of cells, however our students learned to take it 1 step at a time and created a budget sheet from scratch. They were able to input detailed information and formulas. It's always a little easier with "...a little help from our friends..." as The Beatles once said. Congrats to our winners in each period, but overall excellent job to all my students in Tech Creations! You all rocked it!
-Ms. Moncayo Photo Upload by TA Carine Hi Sandburg families, This is just a little update about what we have been doing for the past couple of weeks. We are looking forward to a great year at Sandburg. By Carine We are looking forward to see and hear what they did for their 20 hour project. This is the budgeting competition and the kids got to choose their partner. They had 40 guests and a budget of $600.
Hi Sandburg students and families,
I am so sorry that it's been a while since my last post. We have had so many fun activities at school such as Waterpalooza, sports starting up, and so much more. I can't believe the end of the first quarter is quickly approaching, but it's been a good start to the school year so far. One of the highlights in our classroom was having a professional blogger, Brittany Xavier and her husband come speak to us about photo editing, photo equipment, and running a business on a website. The students came up with the questions they wanted to know and Mrs. Brittany answered them. Please consider checking out the account Sandburg Spartans on Instagram to see more of the class photos of that day that she came to visit. Today we had a really good discussion using a Socratic Seminar strategy about the ethics of photoshop when it comes to editing faces on people. I am proud of my spartans that answered that they don't have any right to take a picture of anyone without permission and to use our tools only for good. Be proud of your student, because they know what is expected when it comes to these fun, but powerful tools. We are still learning PIXLR tools such as converting pictures to silhouettes and cleaning up pictures. Be sure to check out your students work on 8th grade Student Work! I can't wait to update you next time with more projects, discussions, and hopefully they will have a huge dent in their 31 day photo challenge! If you don't know what is, be sure to ask them what they decided to take a picture of for 31 days! Hi Blog Followers,
Now that the first couple of weeks have passed by, it is so good to finally get into the PIXLR program. This week students explored PIXLR tools, and had to demo the tools they were assigned. Thanks to Daniel, he was able to post the class notes for us. Check it out HERE. Today (Thursday, September 7, 2017) we did a little demo on what it means to have layers on a photo. The plastic represents a layer that can be marked on. Also, each item of the picture that is added becomes it's own layer. Featured below are the helpers that were picked to help put together the layers. I can't wait see to see your first project creation of the posters you will make and don't forget, LAYERS MATTER! Written by: Ms. Moncayo Check out more pictures below on the slideshow! :) Hey Sandburg students and family readers! Welcome to the first post of the year! Can you believe you have already accomplished 1 week of school? If this week has already flown by, then I can't even imagine how fast this year will go. I really enjoyed the activity of getting to know my students and for some periods they were able to ask questions to see what they had in common with a peer. If they had the same answer they were suppose to give each other a high five! We have a lot more in common with each other than we think. Check out the images below and tell me, what was your favorite part of the first week of school? We still have routines to practice before we get into the big and fun projects, but stay tuned, because you'll want to see what we are up to next.
